You Always Need a Place to Get Away

Lots of things went down in December. But a few of them were whimsical hikes far away from everyone else. This post features the beauty of Maui when you want to get away

We met a cat we named Fred along a trail

Someone else keeps water and food nearby for randoms to fill up for the friendly cat Fred

Kapalua has a butterfly for it's mascot for the region. This trail will help you understand why. We went off the beaten path and found a valley of butterflies, and much more. These butterflies here are mating :)
And we found wild guava growing in the trees
They were ripe and yummmmmy!

That's a butterfly in the upper right corner. Thats why I am so excited in this shot,
to get a photo with the butterfly in my frame

The trail we were on is an overgrown abandoned gold course. So the hidden path we found was, at parts, a golf ball graveyard. Yes we grabbed a few.

The "duck pond" as everyone knows it by, at the top of this trail
Golfs balls and juggling

Infamous Julia's banana bread stand. Up North past the most dangerous part of the Northern one lane cliffside road. Every local knows of Julia's banana bread. It's to die for. Cash only, when they sell out, you're out of luck.

The North route is very dangerous and scary for the first few times (more dangerous than the Hana road), but so beautiful

How stoked would you be to live in that little beach hut..

It's hard to get a day off together. But a day off in Maui allows for unexpected hidden trail hikes up a mountain side and random road trips along scary roads just for fun. We are hoping for many more of these in January when we make more of an effort during our wedding and Maui anniversary month. Third year wedding anniversary and second year anniversary of living on Maui on January 13. And believe me, our adventure on January 13 will be unforgettable. Stay tuned to find out...

Jane Fonda...?

A friend of mine had a Bachelorette party in the beginning of December. It was an 80's orange and leopard print. My friend lent me a bright orange unitard to rock. I paired it with some black tights. I went by "Jane Fonda" that night.

We went down to Front Street. The part of town that becomes alive at night. Crawling with tourists and locals who just got off work, out for a drink. There were probably 20 of us on Front Street in our very loud outfits. We went on a scavenge hunt and needed to take pictures for proof that we completed each task. We also had to have our prop in every photo or else the task wasn't fully completed. Our prop was a pineapple. That is where all of these pictures came from, and also why they aren't very good because random passer-bys had taken the photos for us. There were like 4 groups of about 5 girls running around Lahaina to complete tasks. Girls running and yelling in bright orange and leopard print made a little bit of a statement along one fairly short street of Maui. I was told the next day that we made quite a rustle along the streets that evening.

Explaining the rules of the scavenger hunt
We ended up dancing at Moose McGullicuddy's
I was the only one in there in a unitard...

Picture of smiles with lemons in your mouth.
P.S. that sheet is covering a bird cage behind us who was whistling at us the whole time we were in there (even though he couldn't see us hahaha, I was like WHO IS WHISTLING AT US SO MUCH?! We get the point!!, oh it's a bird)
Picture with a drunken sailor (the statue)
Get the bartender to create a drink called the Mija (Cristina's nickname)
Fit your whole group in one bathroom stall
Be monkeys in the banyan tree
Take a picture with a guy with the same name as the groom (Chris)
Spell out LOVE with your bodies
Take a picture with a live musician at a restaurant

Excuse that "bird" in the background, Toni was being threatened
and yelled at from a competing group across the street
Take a picture with a Santa
Take a picture with the Hawaiian flag

We were late to the meet up spot so I threw out my thumb and got us a ride in the bed of a local truck.
Jane Fonda was working well for me that night

My best friends, Kristin and Toni

After the dance party was shut down at Moose's, a little sweaty

Hard Rock Cafe lent us their stage to party like rock stars of the 80's
Leap from pole to pole. Late night shenanigans
It was hard!
My closest friends and I ended up at Kristin's house playing dance video games and I taught everyone a little ballet. Got home around 4am. Cristina said it was the best night out she has EVER had!! The bride was happy and everyone else had a great time,  a pretty successful evening :)
